Sunday Grains of Gratitude......

Grains of Gratitude

It's the middle of November - already - how can that be? The Sundays are just flying by - it will be Christmas and a new year before we know it. It's been a hugely busy couple of weeks with lots of stuff scheduled and I'm feeling a little worn out :) Plus - the hubs was out of town all week in San Jose (wish I could have tagged along and visited good friends!) so I was the lone woman wrangling the little un's and all their schedules. It was busy - but we survived :)

This week I'm grateful.....

that a new grocery store opened kinda close by that had a some GREAT store opening specials - the yummy bread we like for 99 cents, gallons of milk for 99 cents, cereal for a dollar, lunch stuff for $1.50 - some dang good deals :) It was almost worth waiting in line for almost an hour to pay for it - I should have checked which day was opening day, and not headed in 1 hour after the store opened - wowza - it was packed!!! Almost like the Black Friday sales!!! It was nice to get some food deals though :) I think we now have our 3 month supply of cereal - too bad bread and milk don't last for 3 months ;)

that we could go to C's highschool soccer banquet. It was fun to spend some time with the girls again and she got an all-region academic award, letter, and they give away five specific awards for each team (JV and Varsity), last year she got the most improved player and this year she got the C...... award, which is for the player who brings the spirit of the team, builds the players up, and shows a commitment to team building. The teams vote on these awards, so C was so excited that her team viewed her as such a positive role model :)

that Little K's reindeer costume is done for the play - much gratitude for Wal-mart and their cheap sweats :) Now off to find a child sized pattern for an elf costume for H. Gotta love it.

that C had only ONE student council event this week - of course it happened to be sandwiched in between her 2 indoor soccer games - but still - just one event - that was nice! She hears December is brutal - so I guess we'll be grateful that things are a little calmer right now ;)

that J is lovin' the stake dances - and this time around - danced 5 dances with girls. I've gotta say - the youth these days are a little different than we were - we always danced one on one with boys/girls for every dance - now they just dance around in their little groups - all girls - all boys - whatever - and only pair off for slow dances. Not that I'm complaining, but hey, it's a little different than in "my" time :) C went to a professional soccer game, but Big K and J had a good time at the dance :)

that Brady's run in with a pop can, and Big K's run in with a barbed wire fence were remedied with some steri-strips and bandaids. They both have nice little slices - Brady on his thumb (and I'm hoping this is a lesson learned and he won't be sticking fingers in open pop cans anymore) and Big K on her nose (and I'm hoping this is a lesson learned - running through fields in the dark of night CAN lead to falling in ditches full of water and barbed wire). Not a single nurse in our ward was home to consult on Friday night after Big K's mishap (what - do you all go on weekly dates or what???) so we managed to find another friend the next ward over to check her out and patch her up (she's deathly afraid of needles and has never had stitches before - so it's a great thing our good friend had some steri-strips handy :) The steri-strips across her nose are definitely a good conversation starter :)

that the hubs and I could go out on some fun - er - practical dates - to the new grocery store, and um, an old one that had some good deals this week. Surprisingly enough - we ran into a lot of couples we know, also out on the same kind of dates :) Hey - it's time spent together without the kids - so it qualifies - right???

that we got part of one of Big K's college applications done - she still needs to write a few essays, but, we got parts of it submitted. I need to check out the applications for some other colleges, although there is one particular one she really wants to attend, so hopefully she'll get in, and hopefully she'll get some sort of scholarship - keeping our fingers crossed. She wasn't able to get her ACT scores up high enough for the automatic four year scholarship, but hopefully with the comprehensive application and her wide range of AP classes and activities, as well as her good grades, she'll be able to get more than just the 1/2 tuition she's already qualified for. Keeping our fingers crossed.....

that my honey is home! I sure missed him! And - he cleaned our room, which was a huge pig stye, all up yesterday. He is such a good guy - I love him soooo much!

What are YOU grateful for today????

(()) to you! Glad your husband is home. Sounds like another busy, busy, busy week. I bet you were happy about the grocery store. I never stopped to think what it might cost to feed all of those wonderful kiddos!! Worth every cent, but I'm sure it adds up. I am watching the food consumption increase with the size of my guys. Where do they put it???

Have a super week.

Julie
