Sunday Grains of Gratutide........Mother's Day Edition :)

Grains of Gratitude

Happy Mother's Day everyone!!!! What a great day to reflect on my gratitudes, as I'm especially grateful to be a MOM :)

This week I'm grateful.....

That my kids were so cute and "surprised" me by heart-attacking my room last night :) H and Little K stayed up really late (past midnight - I'll probably pay for that today ;) and made cute hearts and put them all over my room. I did wake up while they were putting them up - but I was so tired from being up all night the night before (long story) that I didn't even notice when they were climbing around my head and putting them all over the all above my bed :) I'm thankful I slept through it and wasn't up again all night :)

That H did so well in his play :) That he remembered all his lines and didn't skip a beat when others didn't :) The play ended up being so cute, and really went well for a 3 act, hour and a half long performance :) Considering the kids are 10-12 years old, they did GREAT!!!!

That Little K could finish out her soccer season. Her team made it to the quarterfinals and then played a team that was older and just more skilled. They made a good showing, but couldn't beat them. It was a good season (no matter what the coaches think, they're a little out of control on the competitive side - especially for 8 and 9 year olds ;) The girls ended up in the higher division for spring season because they did so well in the fall, and also in the highest bracket for seeding for the tournament (hence the difficult teams we played). Little K was one of the least skilled players on the team, but she learned a lot and while she didn't get as much playing time as the other girls, and the coaches didn't think she learned as much as the other girls (as they are looking for pure athleticism and natural talent, not developed talent) I saw improvement in her skills. They are going to cut her from the team (sad to be cut at such a young age, so much a statement about the competitiveness of sports these days - when coaches won't even take the time to develop their players, but are already grooming them to be premier club players at the age of 8). Hopefully she'll be able to make another team with a coach that will see her potential (she has plenty, she's a much better player than C, who played varsity, was at this age) and really work with her. We'll see - tryouts are in a couple of weeks.

that Big K is mostly finished with her AP tests. She's taking 4 AP classes this year, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that she did well on all of them and will be able to go into college as at least a sophomore :) She also had an interview to be an officer in a service organization, so we'll see how that goes too :) I'm grateful taht she is such a great, organized and self-motivated girl, it really makes my life a little easier to not have to worry about one more kid's homework, as she is always so on top of it :)

that Brady is feeling a bit better. Hopefully the antibiotics will really help! I want my sweet boy back! He did really great at the Treasure Island performances. He is really sensitive to noises, so the feedback and echoing of the mikes sometimes really bothers him, but he really did great and loved the play (except where the pirates kidnap his brother and he's kicking and screaming. He was a little worried for H :) His favorite song was the Pigaloo song and he kept singing it and doing the actions after the play :) It was cute :)

that C played well and won all her soccer games this week - only 2 left before their tournament! Hoping and praying they win them, as if they do, they will move up into the next division!

that J passed off his percussion level, and hopefully (really keeping my fingers crossed here) is working hard to pass off a couple more so he can continue in percussion, as he really likes it :) I'm grateful he's found a bunch of friends at school who have the same interests he does (percussion, video games, being goofy teenage boys). Of course they're all feet taller than him, it's hard to be short sometimes - at least Brady will always be shorter than he is - hopefully that's some consolation :)

That my hubby took C driving last night for a little while, got up early with Brady and entertained him so I could sleep, and made the yummiest Mother's Day breakfast! He knew I was feeling overwhelmed and it was so nice of him to take on some of my responsibilities :) He was great to take J to his soccer game, while I was at H's baseball game, and clean up the kitchen too. Thanks honey - I love you! (not that he reads this, but, maybe someday he will ;)

and last, but definitely not least, I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to be a mom, and for the example my own mom set for me, so I could learn how to be a good one. I don't always feel like I live up to her example, but I am so trying :) I love each and every one of my kiddos and am so grateful that Heavenly Father let me be their mom - it's been an amazing and interesting adventure :) Definitely a growing experience, I've learned so much from each of them! I'm so grateful it's the path and career I chose though - there is nothing better than a hug and an I love you Mom from your kids!

What are YOU grateful for today???

I was amazed at the level of competitiveness when we did Summer Games last year, from the Salt Lake teams. We played U10 and we were slaughtered! We were told after that they actually have personal trainers working with them. Isn't it sad? I am glad Brady is feeling better and hope you are too.

Your "Grains" always make me feel like I am right there seeing your busy, busy week! Sounds like it was fantastic.

Hope those antibiotics do their job for Brady!
